This week in math we have started working with triangles. Students should be able to sort triangles with the following types: Obtuse, acute, right, equilateral, isosceles, and scalene. Students should be able to find a missing angle in triangles and quadrilaterals. WE also introduced polygons and can compare a polygon to a non-polygon and be able to describe the reasons why.
This week in science we finished up our sky science unit. Students worked on understanding the difference between comets, asteroids, meteors, meteoroids and meteorites based on their locations. Students should also have a understanding of the technology used in the exploration of space. This week in math we have started the angles unit. Students should be able to understand what an acute, obtuse, right and straight angle are. We learned how to use a protractor to measure angles. The practice worksheet lesson 2 and 3 is due for Tuesday, May 21. Practice PAT corrections are also due on Tuesday, May 21.
This week in science students started working on the constellations assignment. The assignment is posted on the blog. These projects are due Thursday, May 23. 6D also went to Jumpingpound this week and had a great review of trees and forests and should be thinking about what each individual can do to help protect our forests! This week in math we practiced with finding pattern rules with single and two step rules. The coordinate grid was introduced and students should be able to plot the coordinates from an ordered pair. The table and graph practice is due for Monday, May 6th.
This week in science we have been researching facts on the sun. Students made a sun web with information from the videos from the sky science website. These webs were due on Thursday May 1st. We have tried to get outside to tell time with a sundial but there has been no sun! Hoping to get outside next week if we can get some rays to shine through the clouds. Students also researched the moon. Students need to understand that the moon phases are predictable and be able to explain and illustrate the phases of the moon. In Humanities, we have spent a lot of time preparing for the upcoming Provincial Achievement Test. In doing so, we have written and edited both stories and news articles. They will be receiving the marks for these on Monday. We have also been working on our Democracy or Not project. It is due on Tuesday next week, when it will be presented during class. Reminder: PAT on Wednesday next week - bring a CLEAR water bottle and HEALTHY snacks! This week in math we have started our Patterns unit. Students should understand the concept of input pattern and output pattern. We have been practicing finding patterns by looking at tables and at figures, students should be able to write a pattern from looking at table of values.
This week in science we started our last unit; Sky Science. We introduced the unit with understanding the difference between emit and reflect. We also went through rotation of the earth. Students should understand the reasons for day and night, seasons and what a revolution and rotation are. The visual journal illustrations of reasons for seasons, reasons for day/night, rotation, revolution, emitting light and reflecting light are due on Tuesday April 30!
